Camden schools - Responding to the challenge of Radicalisation and Extremism

We anticipate the following approaches to deliver support to schools:

• Bespoke training for schools tailored to school priorities delivered by leaders in Camden Schools
• Central training available for Camden school staff including Camden Council led Workshops to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP)
• On-going advice and support from Camden Prevent Coordinator
• Community and Parent Engagement

Bespoke training for schools tailored to school priorities

This could include:

• Developing whole school strategy in line with statutory responsibilities, including the deepening of safeguarding and protective structures and procedures
• Understanding how schools can prevent and challenge radicalisation
• Understanding how young people may be vulnerable to radicalisation and extremism, including grooming
• Awareness training for staff on implications of extremism and radicalisation on practice e.g. relationships, behaviour and learning
• Advice and guidance on curriculum and teaching materials
• Tools and strategies for staff in the day to day management of sensitive situations that may arise within a school context
• Developing communications strategies with parents, external professionals, outside agencies and organisations

Camden Council Training and Advice

Camden Council deliver WRAP (Workshop to Raise Awareness of Prevent) via the Training and Development Service .This is a 2 hour session delivered by the Prevent Coordinator aimed at raising awareness of safeguarding under the Prevent duty.
Home Office approved e-learning modules and resources are available at for those that are unable to attend WRAP training and for your wider staff team.

Community and Parent Engagement

The Camden Community and Vulnerable Groups Consultant:

• Provides opportunities to bring community groups and professionals together
• Supports schools in working with parents to build their resilience to extremism
• Works with schools in responding to local issues
