Teacher’s Pay Award 2015

Teacher’s Pay Award 2015

08 Sep 2015

The Department for Education published the final version of the School Teachers Pay & Conditions Document 2015 on the 11th August. It arrived at the last possible moment to be laid before Parliament to come into law on the 1st September 2015.

The DfE has accepted in total the recommendations of the 25th Report of the School Teachers Review Body (STRB). In summary the main headlines from which are

  • A 1% uplift to the minima of all the teacher pay ranges
  • A 1% uplift to the maxima of the Upper Teacher Pay Range, Unqualified Teacher Range and Leading Practitioner range
  • The ability to implement a 2% uplift to the maximum of the Main Teacher Pay Range
  • No uplift to the maximum of the Leadership Pay Range
  • No uplift to the maxima of the eight head teacher group ranges

It is a statutory requirement to uplift the salary of all teachers paid on the minima of the ranges by 1%, i.e. to ensure no teacher is paid below the national range. This has been implemented by Camden Schools Payroll for those schools who take our services.

HR has updated the Camden Schools Model Pay Policy and the Teachers Model Appraisal Policy in accordance with the revised SPTCD, as the prelude to formal consultation with the recognised trade unions which commence this week.

We have proposed leaving open the option within the model pay policy for Schools to select whether or not to increase the maxima in the main teacher’s pay range by 2 percent, an approach endorsed by the Local Government Association.

There is no automatic entitlement or right to be awarded the 2% uplift. It has to be awarded on the basis of evidence demonstrating that the individual teacher has been displaying excellent teaching and achieving the excellent pupil outcomes.

The Model Pay Policy, the teacher pay ranges and allowances are statutory items and will be made available for all Camden schools to download through the Camden Schools Website.
