SEND Reviewer Training on Thursday, 4th May at Swiss Cottage School

12 Apr 2017

Dear Headteachers

Camden Learning announces their SEND Peer Review Training and Development opportunity for Headteachers, Senior Leaders, Inclusion Leaders, and SENCOs.

Camden Learning aims to be improving outcomes for learners with SEND through the offer of a strategic review using the London Leadership Strategy’s Peer Review Model.

The review helps schools to identify strengths and areas for improvement within their SEND provision; to review and create improvement plans for SEND provision and help embed a focus on SEND into normal school improvement practices. The starting point is self-evaluation, so that the process works for the school and their context.

The review is similar in scope to the existing Pupil Premium Review.

The SEND Review identifies strengths and areas of development across eight key areas:

• Outcomes for pupils with SEND

• Leadership of SEND

• The Quality of Teaching and Learning for Pupils with SEND

• Working with Pupils and Parents/Carers of Pupils with SEND

• Assessment and Identification

• Monitoring, Tracking and Evaluation

• The Efficient Use of Resources

• The Quality of SEND Provision

After a one-day review, a SEND Reviewer with the relevant expertise works collaboratively with the schools on their areas of priority areas. The potential for the SEND Hub is the signposting of local best practice, which can then be reflected on the Camden Best Practice portal. The aim is for the SEND Review process to support all schools strategically, instead of being a one-off review process.

The SEND Hub is offering SEND Reviewer Training on Thursday, 4th May at Swiss Cottage School.

The SEND Reviewer training provides guidance for leaders on how to conduct a SEND review. This includes how to prepare for the day of the review itself, approaches to gathering evidence on the day of the review and good practice in providing feedback and reporting. The training also covers how to provide effective coaching during the review process and for follow-up visits. It is recommended that after the training, you shadow a SEND Review to contextualise the process and prepare for leading Reviews in the future. Swiss Cottage School, DRC is able to provide opportunities to shadow reviews.

The training is being funded by London Leadership Strategy and is being offered through Camden Learning at no cost.
