Summer Reading Challenge 2017 – Animal Agents

Although it’s still over 5 months away, Camden Libraries are already planning for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. For those of you not familiar with the SRC, it’s a holiday activity run in every Camden library which encourages children aged 4-11 to keep reading throughout the summer – they earn prizes for reading books, and are presented with a certificate if they reach a target of 6 titles.

The Challenge is created each year by the Reading Agency with a different theme, and in conjunction with an established children’s artist – 2017’s theme is Animal Agents (a gang of eccentric beasts solve a library-based mystery) and Tony Ross (of Horrid Henry and I Want My Potty! fame) is the illustrator of the supporting materials.

We encourage local library staff to visit schools within their catchment areas during July, and talk to school assemblies or individual classes about the Reading Challenge. You may be approached by staff from your nearest library asking to arrange a date for a visit – however if you would like to organise this yourself, you’re welcome to approach that library – or contact me (chris.davieslibraries@camden.gov.uk ) and I can put you in touch with a helpful local colleague.
