Camden is committed to achieving its objective of having the best schools in the country by 2020. This includes supporting the maintained schools through a school reorganisation and restructuring. Camden’s current policy is to reimburse maintained schools for the costs of redundancy and the discretionary payment if the individual staff member consents and signs a settlement agreement. It is also contingent on the school ensuring it follows Camden’s employment policies throughout the restructuring process (including the calculation of the redundancy sums).

If your school buys into our Camden School Services your school’s HR Business Advisor will guide you through the process. If not you should seek the support of your school’s HR provider.

Before your school embarks on formal consultation with the affected staff and trade unions on any proposed changes to your staffing structure, and you anticipate there is a risk of redundancy costs you should complete the request for funding of restructuring proposals template. This will detail the potential worst case financial risk if the proposals were implemented. A second template should be completed once the restructuring proposals have been implemented, to facilitate the reimbursement of funds back to the school. The information provided should detail the actual redundancy costs incurred by the school

You should note Camden does not pick up any legal expenses associated with the settlement agreement. If the discretionary payment is contemplated Camden needs prior sight of the draft settlement agreement before a signature is sought from the staff member, as the employer in community schools Camden will be co-signatories to the agreement. Camden does not pick up the cost or reimburse for the pay in lieu of notice, nor does it pick up additional pension strain for teachers.
